I have an Amazon Fire 5th gen (2015) tablet with a 64GB external SD card installed. The first partition on this card is formatted vfat.
I have no write access via the Android terminal shell or via adb to the external SD card first partition.
The tablet was originally running FireOS 5.0.1, but has been converted to CyanogenMod 12.1 via RootJunky's guide. The tablet has also been rooted and OTA updates have been disabled.
The method used for KitKat 4.4 and later involves modifying /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml to add the media_rw gid to "android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE". Under CM 12.1, this method when applied manually no longer appears to have the effect of granting write access to the first partition. The "SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD" Google Play store app appears to use this method.
Is there a way to obtain this access without removing the SD card and writing to it using a Windows or Linux machine ?
